Carbohydrates give us energy, proteins also provide energy and help repair our body’s tissues, fats are sources of energy and vitamins and minerals that help to keep our bodies functioning well. To become healthier, our diets may need to change. For instance, it helps to eat three well balanced meals a day—including snacks—because this will help us to stay focused on losing weight—if we need to—and to stay well. By eating more fruits and vegetables, high fiber foods such as wholegrain breads, beans and potatoes with skins, low-fat dairy products such as low-fat cheese and yogurt, we can maintain good health. There are foods that we need to limit in our diets and they are: processed meat, foods high in salt such as potato chips and sauces, pop, biscuits and butter, cakes and pies. That's not to say that we can never eat cakes, pies or doughnuts; however, when we do consume these products, it needs to be in moderation and sparingly.
There are many benefits that come from healthy eating such as losing weight. Staying away from the doctor’s office is another great benefit of eating healthy. In today’s world we see many suffering from diseases such as obesity and gout—diseases that could have been prevented by eating healthy foods. In addition, eating healthy can also increase energy in our bodies. Healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables give us more energy and when we feel more energized, we become more productive and active.
Another plus factor with healthy eating is looking younger and more feeling more attractive. Fresh fruits and vegetables provide excellent cell growth and take away free radicals that can become toxic in our bodies. Drinking water is known to refresh and replenish the body and to keep the organs of our bodies youthful and in good shape. In addition, be eating healthier foods we may live longer, happier and more fulfilling lives. By preventing high blood pressure, diabetes and other illnesses coming in our lives, we are able to become more involved in life and that means more possibilities for enjoyment in all areas of our lives.
Additional benefits we receive with healthy eating is better looking skin. When the skin is well hydrated and give the proper nutrients, the results are a glowing skin. Our skin reflects our eating patterns and by eating more fresh things like apples, oranges, broccoli and cauliflower, our skin will reflect those healthy foods. Still another benefit we receive when eating healthier foods is better sleep. By consuming more foods like potatos with skins, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, grapes, beans and whole grain foods, we will enjoy longer and deeper sleeping.
One other benefit we receive when we eat healthier foods is that our stress levels go down. The body responds well when we eat healthy foods. We feel more stress when we eat processed foods, red meat and high fat foods such as pie, cake and cookies because there are few nutrients in them. Foods with more nutrients help the body and mind cope much better with stress and anxiety and that is, indeed, a plus factor for good health!
