UTIs can be incredibly uncomfortable and even embarrassing, but most importantly of all, an untreated infection can lead to more severe complications. Kidneys can be affected if the infection is left to spread on its own. A kidney infection is much more severe since failing kidneys affect waste removal throughout the entire body. Once the infection is successfully treated, there are simple things you can do to prevent them from recurring. UTIs are often misdiagnosed bladder infections, which can be treated easily if caught early. There is no concrete answer to why some people get repeated incidents of UTI's, but we can help you in this area as well.

Symptoms of a UTI, can be the following (but professional medical advice should be obtained for a proper diagnosis):

– painful urination
– frequent urge to urinate
– sore or swollen abdomen
– cloudy or smelly urine

A bladder infection can easily transfer to a kidney infection, which is more complicated. Call a doctor immediately if the symptoms above are paired with any of the following:

– fever
– nausea
– back pain
– you are pregnant, over 65, or have diabetes/weakened immune system

UTI's or bladder infections are caused by germs which are not normally found in the urinary tract and bladder finding their way into these areas and irritating the sensitive skin. It is vital to insure that the germs do not get in contact with these areas, and to flush out that area to get rid of the germs which may have made their way there before they cause bigger problems.

Simple ways to prevent UTIs:

– women should urinate after having sexual intercourse
– drink plenty of fluids
– at the first sign of infection, drink cranberry juice
– women should always remember to wipe from front to back after a bowel movement

The proper and simple way of diagnosing a UTI, is through a urine sample. During your first appointment at Night and Day Medical, we will collect a urine sample which will be analyzed by our highly trained lab technicians. You may be prescribed an antibiotic to treat the initial infection. It is important to continue to take the full amount of antibiotics prescribed for you since the entire regiment is a cycle. Don't stop taking the medicine when you start feeling better.
